This Sunday’s gospel continues on last week’s topic of dealing with greed, which is a byproduct of fear. The greedy person lives in two types of fear: 1) He won’t have enough and God won’t provide for him 2) What he has will be taken from him. Jesus combats these lies with the line, “Do not be afraid little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom”. Not only will God provide for you in your need, but He wants to give you the kingdom! But in order to do this, we must be generous by selling what we have and giving alms. In acting against the fear that traps the greedy person, we become joyful givers that mirror the love and goodness of God the Father for others in the world.
