In the gospel this Sunday, Jesus warns us to guard against all forms of greed (whether it be money, control, status, etc). Because of original sin, greed becomes a source of idolatry in our lives when we think it will grant us total security or satisfaction. However, we can quickly forget who the source of all that we have and all that we will ever truly need actually is; we make other things the center of our lives apart from God. Greed is rooted in fear and fueled by ingratitude, which needs to be combatted with generosity. A generous heart is rooted in trust and gratitude and knows God the Father as the source of all he has.
