The Catholic Corner - Journey Community

Keeping you informed on Helena's Catholic businesses and entities

The Diocese of Helena has a long history of offering opportunities for parishioners and others to enhance their spiritual lives, helping them better understand Christianity and their roles in advancing God’s kingdom. One such opportunity is “Journey,” a 3-day retreat for women and men, centered on understanding the role of the Christian woman and man in today’s world. Formerly known as “Cursillo,” the retreats are directed by lay persons, supported by Catholic spiritual directors who help participants learn more about their faith and how to apply their respective gifts. The Cursillo movement began in Mallorca, Spain prior to World War II, expanded into the United States in 1957, and has been offered in our Diocese for over 60 years. Using the basic principle of "Make a Friend, Be a friend, Bring a friend to Christ, " these Journey weekends are directed at educating those in our community in the basic tenets of the faith, and encouraging them to develop or expand a relationship with our Lord.

Many in the Helena area have made Journey weekends and remain engaged in small prayer groups of friends who meet regularly to learn more about Jesus and share their lives in the faith. For many, a Journey weekend has been a transformative event in their lives, allowing them make and keep good Christian friends while giving them purpose, meaning, and support in their walk with Jesus. Upcoming Journey weekends in the Helena area are scheduled to be held at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish in East Helena January 12-15, 2023 for women and February 16-19, 2023 for the men. Contact Mary Munger (mjamunger@gmail.com) or Darvin Eckert (helenacursillorector@gmail.com) for more information or to register for the events.
